I once had 4 fish tanks with some really fancy fish. When we moved to Oregon, I had to give everything a way. Several of my fish were worth a few hundred dollars. Recently, I decided to return to this hobby. I’m just dabbling in a toe with a 7 gallon aquarium. In the future, I’ll do something grander. For now, I’m very happy with my Betta, guppies, and blue velvet shrimp. The shrimp are always hiding. One of the guppies jumped out of the tank, so now there are only 3. They’re all male guppies, so I don’t end up with more guppies.
I went for the ruined temple underwater look. I quite like it. I suck at keeping regular plants, but my aquarium plants are growing. The shrimp should breed and I’ll get more of those. Cool. I named the fancy fish, Harlow. Plus, there’s science to fish keeping. I run my tests and get results. Then I go visit my local fish store and ask for help. It’s amazing how much I forgot, and I messed up the balance by being too diligent. I did a water change too soon. No worries, science will soon have the other world I created back in balance.
I love my new aquarium. I spend hours watching the fish. It’s so relaxing. I also enjoy tinkering with it. Oddly, the cat doesn’t care. He barely looks at the fish. He’s such an uncat sometimes.
I can’t yet decide what I want to do for a bigger and grander aquarium – I finally decided on the fish, but not the theme. First, I’ll get my fish legs back by taking care of Harlow and the guppies.
