Today’s Featured Knights:
Dame TF Walsh can command wolves and not just ordinary wolves. I’ll avoid her under the moon.
From Cloaked in Fur by TF Walsh:
My emotions tore between apologizing and confessing everything, yet all I managed to do was stare at his bare torso.
“Your institute has been issued passes to travel into the woods, and Vasile has yours. I can give you a lift there.” Connell cleared his throat and took my cup to the sink. “You’re awfully quiet.”
Heat exploded across my skin, and I climbed to my feet. “My mind is a swirl of thoughts, but I can’t pin any of it down. I’m devastated that my neighbor is dead, the police suspect me, and even worse, I feel you slipping away from me. So, what am I supposed to say?”
Instead of collecting me into his embrace and kissing me, Connell stood there like one of those God statues in museums that wore almost nothing, but were sculptured to perfection. I wanted to forget everything the day was about to bring and beg Connell to make love to me until I passed out.
What would you do for love?
Showing no fear is Lady Esta. She keeps company with horror and evil. A definite match for the wolf master.
From A Slow Burn by Shah Wharton:
I glared out the window, hoping to attract attention from a passer by. They might help a girl out. But the more I looked, the more the view outside appeared as odd as inside the room felt. Grey skies—nothing new there for the UK in October—but at four in the afternoon, not a soul moved.
The second hand’s moving on my watch, it hasn’t stopped.
No sign of traffic. Many cars appeared abandoned, parked haphazardly on the road. What’s the last thing I remember? Think. I closed my eyes, determined. Thursday evening, in a taxi on my way home from a meeting at Jules Nightclub. Yeah, it went well, too. And then I shared the fare with… dammit. How did I get here? Have I lost time? Have I lost days?
“Think, Bernie. Think.”
No cats slept on car bonnets. Uninhabited cars left with open doors, as though deserted in a hurry, and empty shops with doors left ajar had no one visible on the inside. Slowly the unnerving scene wrapped around my chest until its vicelike grip made me gasp.
“Okay, keep moving, keep it together. Help’s out there, somewhere,” I whispered, looking through the window down to a tiny front yard. I’m on the first floor of a house or an apartment.
I listened for movement elsewhere in the building, but an intimidating silence encased me like the putrid stink.
“Are we alone in this place?”
