In the far future, humanity settles the stars, bioengineering its descendants to survive in a harsh universe. This is the first book in the science fiction series, The Backworlds. A space opera adventure.
After the war with the Foreworlders, Backworlders scatter across the remaining planets. Competition is fierce, and pickings are scant. Scant enough that Craze’s father decides to improve his fortunes by destroying his son. He tells his only boy their moon isn’t big enough for them both and gives Craze a ticket for the next transport leaving the space dock.
Cut off from everyone he knows with little money and no knowledge of the worlds beyond, Craze must find a way to forge a new life and make his father regret this day. First, he must survive.
Stopover at the Backworlds’ Edge [Book 2].
Nothing sane travels the starway. Today it brings disaster.
In the far future, humanity settles the stars, bioengineering its descendants to survive in a harsh universe. This is the second book in the science fiction series, The Backworlds. A space opera adventure.
Revenge is on Craze’s mind. He chews on it every day along with the relentless dust on Pardeep Station. He dreams of grander wealth, enough to make his father choke.
That’s the dream consuming him when the interstellar portal opens, spitting out a ship that should no longer exist. A battleship spoiling for a fight. Yet the war with the Foreworlds ended two generations ago.
One wrong move and the shaky truce will end. So will Craze and his friends.
Boomtown Craze [Book 3]
To realize his dream, to build Pardeep Station into a top world, a destination all Backworlders want to come to, Craze makes the best use of a weapon left behind by the Foreworlders. The dastardly technology helps him to forge advantageous trades, which improves his situation on the dusty moon.
Only days away from the grand opening of his shiny new tavern, the starway opens, bringing in a loony Backworlder intent on mucking up Craze’s carefully laid plans. Gaunt and trembling, she claims her spaceship is possessed. She also has a connection to the underworld that shakes loose the dark past of one of Craze’s closest friends. It all threatens to end his prosperity before it begins.
Meanwhile off world, Captain Talos works desperately to outwit the mercenary Jixes and lure them away from Pardeep Station’s budding prospects. With all the trading done on Pardeep’s behalf, the mind-control weapon Talos is using wears thin, and his next move may be his last.
Will it end in boom or dust?
Beyond the Edge [Book 4]
Some truths are better left unfound.
For two years Craze’s dear friend, Lepsi, has been missing. The murmurings of a haunted spaceship might be a message and may mean his old pal isn’t dead. The possibility spurs Craze and Captain Talos into space to uncharted worlds. Searching an unfamiliar region of the galaxy beyond the Backworlds, they stumble upon a terrible truth.
Meanwhile, Rainly remains on Pardeep Station as acting planetlord, dealing with the discovery of her man’s dark and brutal past. Alone and questioning her judgment, her introspection unlocks more than heartache. Latent protocols in her cybernetics activate, forcing her to face a sinister secret of her own.
*Worlds on Edge [Book 5]
War is coming. A horde of merciless aliens poise just beyond the Edge. In a matter of weeks they will devour the worlds.
Racing ahead of the apocalypse, Craze returns to the Backworlds to warn them and plan a defense. Only he can’t go home. Banned from Pardeep Station, he must wage a more urgent battle. His moon is under siege, and his friends are dying.
Bad things come in threes, and the galaxy is no exception. An old enemy returns, attacking moons and defenseless globes, leaving a wake of destruction. Worse than that, they threaten to join forces with the alien horde.
Defeat seems inevitable. Craze may not be able to stop it. Yet home is worth the fight.
The Backworlds hang by a Quantum string, a thread about to snap. Annihilation is coming if Craze can’t stop it.
The genocidal alien he had trapped breaks free, destroying a ship belonging to the Backworlds’ oldest enemy, the Fo’wo’s. The murderous alien wants to overtake the galaxy. The Fo’wo’s want another war.
The Backworlds’ best chance to survive is to overcome a century of hate and forge an alliance with the Fo’wo’s. Because of his history with the alien, Craze is recruited to represent his people. Now he’s the most hated man in the galaxy.
The looming war will be a holocaust unless he can stop it, knowing salvation comes at a price.
The first shot of a new war echoes through the galaxy. Craze has high hopes for what the alliance with an old enemy, the Foreworlds, will do to defeat a worse enemy, the Quassers.
The test of a highly-advanced weapon, created by the efforts of the alliance, pushes tensions over the brink and kills thousands. To make it worse, the Foreworld ambassador is keeping secrets.
Conventional warfare against the Quassers isn’t working, and if the alliance ends, Craze has become the most hated man in the galaxy for no reason.
With nothing left to lose, Craze sets in motion one last chance for survival.
The Backworlds, Stopover at the Backworlds’ Edge, and Boomtown Craze
In the far future, humanity settles the stars, bioengineering its descendants to survive in a harsh universe. This set contains the first 3 novels in the science fiction series, The Backworlds. A space opera adventure.
The journey into adulthood is stranger than she expects. A new adult science fiction fantasy.
Hetty Locklear lives in a nerd girl fantasy where she is the savior of a dying ancient galactic race. When she’s not role playing in the exotic game world she created, she dreams of being the new It Girl with suave clothes, hundreds of friends, hunks galore falling at her slippered feet, awesome parties, and a job to make every person in the cosmos drool.
Instead she’s stuck at the convenience store wearing stretchy clothes to fit over the paunch formed from a steady diet of donuts and coffee and with a social calendar as empty as deep space. In her whole life she’s only acquired two friends — a cousin, who barely counts, and her best friend since grade school.
Hetty is banking on graduation from community college to transform her into a full-fledged woman. It doesn’t. It gets her an unflattering coffee stain down the front of her gown and an invitation from her parents to visit. Estranged since they went gallivanting off to fulfill their dream of working the Renaissance Faire circuit, Hetty isn’t eager to see them. However, this trip is the best chance she has to repair their broken relationship.
A steamy romance with her boss or the handsome stranger she met at the coffee shop would cure her doldrums, but she’s stuck with the annoying Sir Gnat and is stalked by a ghost. The invisible stranger leads her to a reality she finds hard to believe. It also leads to love and a better relationship with herself.
The Rifters [Book 1]
A junction between the worlds erupts.
The Gold Rush trickles to a fool’s quest and a string of stagecoach heists. In 1888, Earl Blacke decides to make a new start and become a better man. He escapes into the mountains, heading north. In the wilds of Oregon, a rift inside an ancient volcano opens and sends him a century into the future, into the present day. It also shaves thirty years off his age, thirty years to live over again and atone for what he’s done.
Starting over is hard to do. In current day New York, Daelin Long’s dream job at a publishing house goes the way of the dinosaurs her sister, Charming, chases. With no money and nowhere else to go, Daelin accepts the librarian position in her sister’s dinky town in the middle of Oregon.
Nestled inside the ancient volcanic peaks, the town of Settler holds onto many secrets. Residents roam the streets with weirdly fashioned devices, and odd lights pulse in the night skies. People whisper of a phantom outlaw and start dying, murdered and missing their heads. Worse than that, Daelin’s sister is missing, and Daelin doesn’t know who to trust.
Earl knows more than he’s saying. He shares a notorious history with the phantom, one he’ll see remains buried, and his path to atonement involves Charming. Keeping her secrets is his only chance at redemption, and the only way to keep this world safe.
The Initiate [Book 2]
To trust unquestioningly is the first lesson Daelin Long must learn as the newest Initiate of the Rifters.
Her first day is a disaster. To protect her missing sister, Daelin finds it necessary to lie, causing her to fail at her lessons. Worse, the rock sample she digs up near the rift flies away and grows into a swarm of carnivorous bees.
While she struggles, Earl Blacke grapples with his troubles, running far and fast from Settler, Oregon. He must atone for his past before he can have a future. If he can succeed at gold mining and love, two things he failed at, perhaps he can salvage his soul. Before he can find out, Daelin’s sister calls for help, forcing him back to Settler.
There, he and Daelin must work together to preserve family, the town, and tomorrow. They must believe in themselves and each other before there is nothing left to save.
The Reader [Book 3]
With the rift closed for the season and no more monsters to fight, Daelin Long gets bored as librarian in the podunk town of Settler, Oregon. A job interview and her brother’s arrival present a tempting opportunity to escape, until her brother and her best friend, a ghost, disappear.
While Daelin searches for them, more mysteries pile up: dead people coming back to life, portraits of the town founders replaced with strange white trees, and people on the other side of the rift returning. It’s impossible. The portal that allows monsters from other universes to come to Earth is sealed until next summer.
The Rifters, a secret group protecting our world, believe the troubles are nothing more than the tantrums of an offended ghost. Daelin disagrees. If she’s right, the evil hell-bent on destroying Earth has new technology making the rift more deadly.
Before the monster summons the next apocalypse, Daelin must find it and destroy it.
