Confession, sometimes Husband rolls his eyes when I squeal in excitement over a new monster movie. I get extra excited over sharks and dinos.
Me: Planet of the Sharks! Someone read my mind! Either that, or someone is trying to seduce me.
Me: A movie. Planet of the Sharks. How awesome is that?
Husband: Do I have to watch?
Me: If I must, I’ll savor the awesomeness by myself.
Husband: I’ll get you a beer.
Sarge, the cat, joined me to feast on the movie treat of Planet of the Sharks. He’s not really into television, though. Only, if I’m petting him.
The movie opens at a futuristic city on the water. And guess what happens! A swarm of sharks is racing toward the floating city. Yes, instant carnage and death. Bonus points for that.
Parts of this movie were just plain kooky. Some of the characters did some crazy things. That’s one of the reasons I watch these types of movies. I like the surprise of the bizarre. Planet of the Sharks delivered on that score.
There was some fair world building. There were also scientific explanations for the army of sharks to appease tech nerds. I’m not sure the science made sense, but I’m no expert on sharks emitting energy and whether or not sharks can be used to power rockets.
What? You’ll have to watch. I admit that part made me laugh and arch a brow in extreme amusement.
There was even a dance; a shark summoning dance. Husband always considers dance numbers a negative (he says there should be no dancing in sci-fi). I, on the other hand, always consider dance numbers a major bonus, especially if it’s stupid dancing. The stupider, the better. This dance was pretty silly, so it gets the thumbs up from me.
The story really wasn’t half bad. It had a solid plot and the world it was set in was interesting. The actors really committed to their characters and didn’t shy away from being odd or crazy. I liked the outlandish parts best, but I always do. That’s what keeps me watching this genre.
Planet of the Sharks gets a one beer rating. It was a very fun movie, especially if you really like shark movies. Currently playing on Hulu.
So the household was finally well enough to go to the movies. We saw Avengers. My review is: Wow! And NO! That’s all I’m going to say about it. Deadpool 2 is next on our list.
