My lastest astronomy adventure: Eclipsageddon ended and the smoke poured in, so bad, our air was declared dangerous to breathe. Mind you, it’s also dangerous not to breathe. It also majorly interfered with star guiding up at Pine Mountain Observatory. Boo! Or Moo as the gangsta cows would say.
I did run into some old friends, however. The gangstas were out. We even heard them mooing after sunset while using the telescopes. Gangstas won’t be ignored!
Got to see my friends, though. Eric and Jim. And Tom.
The smoke made the sky suck tremendously. Which was extra sucky because it was close to new moon. Didn’t get to see much of anything but blurs where things should have been. Did get to see the moon and Saturn. Here are my best shots. Mooo!
Fun Fact about the Moon: The Moon has quakes caused by the gravitational pull of Earth. Astronauts placed seismographs on the Moon, and discovered moonquakes occur several kilometers beneath the surface. The resulting ruptures and cracks make scientists think the Moon has a molten core like Earth.
Fun Fact about Saturn: Saturn is the least dense planet in the solar system. Made mostly of hydrogen, it has a density which is less than water, meaning Saturn would float.
Weirdest of all, it’s September. How’d that happen?
